Ponferrada is the capital of El Bierzo, a region with own identity and a long history that goes back to the pre-roman settlements, of which we still have remains nowadays.

Throughout the centuries,the Pilgrim's Road to Santiago de Compostela has brought a lot of people from other countries to our region. The Road arrives to Ponferrada via two different entrances. One is the Boeza Bridge and another is La Barca Bridge, whose name has been changed, and it is currently named Molinaseca Bridge, crossing the Boeza River.

We propose a general aproach to the Ancares of León. You will discover most of our emblematic peaks: Cuiña, Miravalles, Mostellar, etc. You can visit the traditional building, the palloza, in Pereda or in Balouta.

Las Médulas- Human Heritage
Raw reddish summits shine at the sunset and stick out among the chestnut trees, the heathers and the brooms. This are Las Medulas nowadays. Declared Human Heritage, they are the result of the Roman engineering and of the effort of the inhabitants of El Bierzo, who started the most important mining work in the peninsula in the 1st and 2nd centuries.
